Marie is a “colleague” of sorts as we are both volunteers for CommonGround. I was so happy she agreed to write up a little about herself as she is our first featured farmer from South Carolina!
Marie O. Bolt is an agricultural education teacher at the Anderson Five Career Campus in Anderson, South Carolina. She focuses her teaching on Animal Science, Wildlife Sciences and AgriScience classes and a large emphasis on her role as an FFA Advisor.
Marie was raised on a diversified row crop and cattle operation in a small town in Southeast Georgia. She was an active member of her 4-H and FFA programs with a major emphasis on livestock projects. Marie received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Clemson University 2005. Upon completion of her BS Marie started work with Bartlett Milling Company as a sales representative with their animal feed division until 2009 when she returned to Clemson to further her education. Marie married Brian G. Bolt on September 8, 2007. Marie began working on a Master’s of Agricultural Education at Clemson University while maintaining a teaching assistantship at Clemson University. On September 3, 2010 while working on her Master’s degree, Marie became the mother of Chat Owens Bolt. Upon completion of her Master’s degree in 2011 she began doing contract work with Anderson School District Five in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. In January of 2012 Marie began teaching agricultural education at the Anderson Five Career Campus where she currently remains teaching. On May 11, 2012 Marie became the mother of Audrey Kate Bolt.
Since the completion of Marie’s BS she has been active on numerous different agricultural committees, organizations and advocacy groups. She is an active member of CommonGround, Anderson County Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Committee, Anderson County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, South Carolina Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association, and the Anderson County Cattlemen’s Association. Marie is passionate about agriculture and is an advocate for the agricultural industry.
Marie and her husband Brian live on his family’s farm in Anderson, SC. Marie has an 11 year old step-son John-Grady Bolt who is passionate about baseball and hunting and fishing. Chat and Audrey Kate are following in their big brother’s footsteps with their love for the outdoors and the farm. The family raises cattle and sheep and makes it a family endeavor.
