I’m a firm believer that you should use Apple Butter for more than just toast and biscuits. So I have a couple of different recipes on my blog for cakes and marinades that call for Apple Butter as an ingredient. And today I’m sharing with you all a tasty side dish you can use apple butter on….. Sweet Potatoes!!!
If you think about it; a lot of times you top your sweet potatoes with cinnamon, brown sugar and butter… well what all goes into apple butter??? Cinnamon, brown sugar and butter… along with some apples and other spices of course. So when you put the apple butter on top of the sweet potatoes; let me tell you…. this is one tasty side dish. And the best part about this recipe is that you can make this dish in your crock pot so it frees up your oven for other dishes.
Ingredients: 3 lbs. sweet potatoes and 1 (1/2 pint) jar apple butter
Directions: Peel and slice sweet potatoes into 1/4 inch thick coins. Place in a greased crock pot. Pour apple butter on top of sweet potatoes and stir so apple butter is spread evenly throughout. Cover and cook on low 7 to 8 hours. Serves about 6 people.
If you don’t want to make these in the crock pot and would rather use your oven then check out the recipe for that here.
