So, I am the first to admit to being a bit on the cheap side. I always try and find a free way of doing things, or really cheap way of doing things. When it comes to editing pictures I was right there looking for the cheapest way to get the look I was going for.
Now, I know that eventually as my blog grows (or probably now, since it has grown!) I will need to update my photo editing programs. However, after a few suggestions I decided a few years ago to download Google’s Picassa. I wanted something super simple- because I didn’t have the time to sit down and mess with Adobe. And Picassa was free.
So after a quick download I was ready to roll.
The first download I made took some time for the program to pull in all my photos from the computer. I had selected the option to let the program do it for me. What I didn’t think about was how those photos would be pulled in and how they would be organized. It created a jumbled mess- I won’t lie. But, the jumbled mess was ordered from most recent to latest photos taken. So, at least it was an organized chaos, somewhat. I haven’t bothered with going through and organizing them…but there is a way! You can select multiple photos and easily rename them to something you might understand like “September 2013″. The key here is selecting multiple photos and renaming at once, because who wants to click through and rename every single file? Also, instead of bringing in all your photos you can select right off the bat which folders you want to upload (which is probably the option I should have chosen!) But, that being said, you can also go through and “star” photos (much like your gmail) that way you will always be able to find them! Handy little tool!
What I love about this program is the editing tools. They are so easy to understand and it doesn’t take having a class in editing to understand. Just some time sitting at the computer choosing and looking through the various options. And there are tons of options. Other than the terms you might be familiar with like ‘Black & White’, ‘Sepia’, ‘Warmly’, etc. There are also terms that you may not be familiar with but might be fun like ‘Lomo-ish’, ‘1960’s’, ‘Cinemascope’. I even tried out one of those unfamiliar editing tools on our Christmas cards a few years ago and it turned out great!
The other feature that is pretty much my favorite is the collage option. I love creating collages. And for many years used this option on my blog as my header. It’s also super simple, and a fun little gift for grandparents if you want a collection of photos.
If you are looking for a simple program to help you out every now and then, this is the program for you! It’s a great and a very AFFORDABLE option!
Happy Picture Making!
